How much money will I get off bus and train fares?

You will pay half the adult ticket price when you show your b_line2 card on journeys inside Derbyshire and to some places just outside the county.

At the age of 14 or 15 (depending on which bus or train company you use) you would normally have to pay the full adult fare.

The way it works is that Derbyshire County Council and Derby City Council pay the other half of your fare to the bus and rail companies

When can I travel at half fare?

Anytime at all - there's no catch!

Your b_line2 card is valid on buses and trains 24 hours a day, every day of the week, all year round.

What sort of tickets can I buy at half fare?

Almost any ticket at peak and off-peak times, which includes:

  • ordinary singles and returns
  • day returns
  • saver and supersaver-type tickets (rail only)season or multi-journey tickets (bus only)

If in doubt ask the bus or rail company or Call Derbyshire 08 456 058 058.

Who can get a b_line2 card?

Anyone from the age of 14 up until their 17th birthday is eligible for a b_line2 card.

If you are between 17 and 19 and are in full-time education you are also eligible for a b_line card.

You must live in Derbyshire, although you can attend school or college outside the county to qualify.

What if I forget my b_line2 card?

If you can't show your card when you buy your ticket, you will have to pay full fare.

It’s no good saying you have one, but it’s at home.

What should I do when my card expires?

Ask at your school or college first when your new card will arrive.

Please don't send in an application form for a new card unless your school tells you to do so, or if your card expires over the summer holidays.

What if I move out of Derbyshire or I turn 17 and I'm not still in full time education?

Sorry, you no longer qualify for a b_line card and you must return your card to Derbyshire County Council (b_line), County Hall, Matlock DE4 3AG.

If you have moved out of Derbyshire, your new county council may have a similar scheme running.
