Stay spooky but safe this Halloween!

Halloween will soon be here again, and it’s time to get inspired about ‘witch’ (sorry!) ghostly get-up you’re going to use to spook out your mates this time round.

Trick-or-Treat Poster

If you do decide to get cloaked up and embrace the Halloween spirit, remember to stay safe. Keep things from getting too creepy by having a read of b_line’s top tips for trick or treaters:

  • 1) Don’t stray too far from home, and plan your route before you set off. This will save your parents or guardians getting too worked up about your whereabouts, and means that you can collect way more goodies even more efficiently!

  • 2) Keep the mystery to a minimum and stick to main roads which are well-populated and well-lit, back alleys and fields are just plain dangerous, and let’s face it…it’s not you that wants to be getting spooked!

  • 3) Make sure small children don’t go out alone, they should be with a responsible adult at all times, so make sure you’ve got an older sibling or parent with you. Or if you are the responsible one, stay sensible and keep a careful eye on your team of tricksters. Maybe you could persuade another friend or sibling to help keep up the safety in numbers

  • 4) Stay in a big group of people – perhaps team up with other trick or treaters from your area. That way you’re much spookier…and a lot safer

  • 5) Crank up the fear factor by adding some glow-in-the-dark or brightly coloured bits to your costume. That way you can still top the terror stakes whilst at the same time making sure you stand out in the dark so passing cars can see you in good time

  • 6) Don’t get tempted into a stranger’s home or car and always remember they’re just that – a stranger. It may be Halloween tradition to be knocking on their doors, but leave it at that and move swiftly on for maximum treat potential…

What about others?
Just one more thing to keep an eye out for from beneath the bandages or your crooked black hat – Derbyshire police have produced a poster like the one we’ve shown here which helps people ward off unwanted visitors!

Not everyone’s up for hair-raising house calls in the middle of Eastenders, so if you spot one of these, just move on to another house.

It’s important that people’s wishes are respected on this one – it’ll make for a better evening for everyone…which means many more eerie evenings of trick or treating on Halloweens to come!
